Frequently Asked Questions

Most visitors come to see the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is on the Hualapai Reservation and to experience the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Meadview is the closest town to the West Rim and a key place to start your journey.

Meadview is home to the largest Joshua Tree forest in the nation, which is a protected area by the federal government. The town is surrounded by this forest!

Meadview, Arizona, was established in the 1960s. It is known for its stunning views of the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead, as well as outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and hiking. It’s also recognized as a popular spot for stargazing and for being a gateway to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. While established as a retirement community, its main fame comes from its natural beauty and recreational opportunities.  The area has a rich history, with early explorers like Jedediah Smith and John C. Fremont passing through. The town was originally developed as a retirement community in the 1960s.

You can hike and bike in the area, enjoy local restaurants, visit the Colorado River, or engage in water sports like kayaking on Lake Mead. See our recommendations & blogs!

The area is home to diverse wildlife including bighorn sheep, desert bighorn, coyotes, bobcats, various bird species like hawks and eagles, and aquatic life in Lake Mead.

Yes! Lake Mead and Meadview are located within a designated dark sky area, making it ideal for stargazing and astronomy enthusiasts. One of the best-kept secrets of Meadview is its incredible stargazing opportunities. With minimal light pollution and a clear desert sky, Meadview is an excellent place for astronomy enthusiasts. The nearby Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument offers some of the darkest skies in the United States, making it a perfect spot for star gazing.

Spring and fall offer mild temperatures ideal for outdoor activities. Summers can be very hot, while winters are cooler but still suitable for visiting.

Yes, Meadview is a safe destination with friendly locals and well-maintained outdoor areas. Standard outdoor safety precautions are recommended. Meadview is the safest town in the entire Mohave County. You will find many residents in Meadview express their 2nd US constitutional amendment: The right to bear arms.

Recommendation: Would not recommend staying in Lake Mead City & Dolan Springs. Unfortunately, parts of those areas struggle with drug issues. While we also love the experience the West Rim itself on the Reservation its nightly accommodations can be more costly. Booking a rental home allows you the flexibility to travel how you want on your own accord.

It depends on what you are looking for! Tour busses can be a great option for those wanting a public, group experience. While they can offer a consistent experience- for the cost it is usually more affordable & enjoyable to do it yourself. Additionally, you are limited to the times, dates and operational hours of the companies often tours can feel rushed & run-of-the-mill. We find that booking a rental (hopefully ours :) ) and visiting on your own is the best option. To each there own.

The town is surrounded by a variety of desert wildlife, including quails, hawks, roadrunners, coyotes, mountain sheep, bobcats, and mountain lions. The area is also known for its Joshua trees, which are a key feature of the landscape.
